Note On Gnostics.






The original Gnostics were a group persecuted and killed by the church, for heresy!






Gnostic literal translation would roughly be "Revelations" or "Truth",









Hens the term Agnostic, or to be without "Revelation" or "Truth".









While the original followers of the first Gnostic philosophy


(not sure it quite technically counts as a separate faith but that is debatable,)


was wiped out, You could apply the same term to several different schools of thought, that share certain similar characteristics.









Very basically, if you feel closer to God alone in a pretty woodland clearing than you can ever do in a crowded organised church with a collection plate at the end,





Then you could arguably call yourself a type of Gnostic.






This does not mean Gnosticism is just a fancy way of saying you are "against organised religion!"


(Any more than all trying to claim that all pies are desserts!)






It is more about being feeling you have a personal revelation that comes from a higher spiritual authority than the official teachings of the faith you are officially apart of.






Example,






A Catholic priest that loves and wholly believes in the church and has no desire to leave it,


BUT


Who also secretly disagrees with his churches official doctrine on some key point, because deep inside he feels that particular teaching is wrong!


Such an example might be,


That although a devoted Roman Catholic he feels from deep within himself that a pro-homophobic stance of his church is morally wrong And that being gay is actually not a sin despite the official papal doctrine.
